After watching footage of the devastating April 9, 2008 fire at the Hechtman Senior living center in West Bloomfield on television, everyone at my law firm felt like we wanted and needed to do something. The next morning, I and eight members of the Auto Accident Claim Center went to Target and filled six carts with toiletries, pajamas, robes, slippers, and much more.

We then brought the items to the Jewish Community Center so that they could be distributed to the people in need. According to the Jewish Federation, more than 90 people have no place to go and are living in temporary housing. For most, the fire was a total loss. Many of the seniors, with an average age of 89, did not have Michigan fire loss insurance. Channel 7 was on the scene as we unloaded the items. You can watch the footage below.
